Eight games into Season 4, the margins are already vicious. England’s top six are separated by one point; Barcelona lead Spain by two; unbeaten Frankfurt and Roma hold three-point cushions.
Gameweek 9 lands on Saturday, 22 August. Spain, Germany, Italy and France kick off at 18:00 UTC, with England following at 19:00.
London pressure, twice
London Red v West Ham puts Sjow’s leaders straight under the lamp. London Red have 15 points and have conceded only three goals, but Wednesday’s 1-0 win was far less controlled than the score suggests: 37% possession, seven shots to 25 and 15 opposition efforts on target. David Raya Martin saved all 15 and earned a 10 rating.
That is resilience, not a repeatable tactical plan. Thirteenth-placed West Ham have nine points and enough defensive resistance — six conceded in eight — to punish another disjointed display.
Fulham v Crystal Palace is the sharper top-end derby. Palace sit third on 14 points; Fulham are seventh on 12. Both have scored 12, but AliManager’s Fulham have conceded five to Palace’s nine.
Fulham arrive from a 3-1 win at Liverpool, producing 19 shots and 14 on target. Strategos watched Palace lose 4-1 at home to Manchester Red. A Fulham victory would take them to 15 points and above their visitors.
Barcelona enter the Vallecas trap
Vallecas v Barcelona is Spain’s title test. Ralek17’s Barcelona lead with 19 points, have won three straight and own an 11-2 goals record. Their latest 2-0 victory included seven shots on target from 11 attempts.
Alighost’s fifth-placed Vallecas are five points back, but the immediate concern is structural. They lost 3-0 at Roda on Wednesday while allowing 42 shots and 20 on target. Against Barcelona, shrinking that shooting volume matters more than chasing an early statement.
The derby alternative is excellent. Bilbao v Donostia-San Sebastián pairs ninth with third. Donostia remain unbeaten at four wins and four draws, lead the division with 14 goals and have conceded four. Bilbao have scored only four and conceded five, then won 1-0 away in midweek. Their route is clear: slow the tempo and turn the occasion into a low-event scrap.
Roma’s response meets Milano volume
Milano Red v Roma is the purest top-table examination. GreenFuryx3’s Roma lead Italy with 19 points and a 12-2 goals record, but their five-match winning sequence ended in Wednesday’s 1-0 home defeat.
Taddy’s fourth-placed Milano Red are five points behind and enter from a 1-0 win built on 68% possession, 20 shots and 11 on target. On that evidence, chance creation is not the problem; conversion is. Against the division’s best defence, wastefulness could decide everything.
The clearest survival scrap is Genova Blue v Sassuolo. Genova Blue are 20th on six points, Sassuolo 17th on seven, and the bottom four are separated by a single point. After eight games apiece, these sides have scored only seven league goals between them. Genova Blue drew 0-0 in midweek; Sassuolo lost 1-0. The first goal will carry enormous weight.
Frankfurt face a finishing test
Leipzig v Frankfurt brings together opposite levels of execution. Fitz’s Frankfurt have 22 points, seven wins, one draw and a 16-2 goals record. Their latest 2-1 victory featured 66% possession, 30 shots and 16 on target.
CloudSV’s Leipzig sit 13th on nine points. They drew 0-0 on Wednesday despite managing 20 shots and 11 on target. Leipzig can generate pressure; the question is whether they can finish before Frankfurt impose another wave.
Rivalry night in Lyon
Lyon v Marseille supplies the French edge. ElChapito’s Marseille are fifth on 14 points, three off the lead after three successive wins. KloV2’s Lyon are 11th on 10 and four matches without victory.
Both produced only five shots in midweek, yet Marseille won 2-1 while Lyon drew 1-1. That points towards a tighter contest in which penalty-box efficiency matters more than possession for possession’s sake.
Milano Red against Roma gets top billing, Vallecas against Barcelona is the nastiest trap, and Fulham against Palace has the strongest momentum swing. Gameweek 9’s theme is simple: the leaders have no room to coast, and the strugglers have no chances to waste.
