Christmas Eve. A crowd of 99,778. Barcelona and Madrid White level on 69 points with the Spanish title waiting for somebody to take it.

When Madrid White equalised in the 65th minute, the whole season was balanced at 1-1. Barcelona responded with goals in the 74th, 78th and 90th minutes. They won 4-1 after producing 28 shots, 16 on target and 60% possession.

It was the night Ralek17 became a Spanish champion — and his third trophy in 179 days.

His route to that stage had taken considerably less time. Ralek left Salzburg at 18:47:57 UTC on 5 February 2025 after winning five of his six matches there. His Barcelona tenure began at 18:49:41.

One hundred and four seconds separated the apprenticeship from the grandest job in Spain.

Barcelona’s shareholders had chosen him over predecessor Libertaerx. The club’s records now split Ralek’s tenure into two entries separated by a 26-second administrative blink, but together they contain 152 matches: 85 wins, 44 draws and 23 defeats.

Season 1 brought fourth place on 64 points and the EUR Cup, secured 1-0 against Lisboa. Season 2 delivered the Spanish crown and the WOR Cup after a 2-0 final win over E Tunis.

Those two finals and the league decider drew crowds of 99,751, 99,786 and 99,778. Against Barcelona’s current 99,787 capacity, that is only 46 empty seats across three near-sellouts.

That scale is part of what makes Barcelona special. The other part is the manager who has made the club his public identity: on Discord, he is simply Ralek(Barcelona).

The team that improved and lost

Then came Soccerverse’s cruellest lesson.

Barcelona won Season 2 with 72 points, 19 victories, 62 goals scored and 16 conceded. In Season 3 they improved to 76 points, 22 victories, 63 scored and only 15 conceded.

They finished third.

Madrid White reached 85 points and Madrid Red 82. Ralek’s Barcelona were statistically better than their championship side and nine points further from the trophy.

That setback did not turn him into a one-system manager. Barcelona have already used three formations and three play styles across their opening four competitive matches of Season 4.

I mean, it's not fun if I know that choosing the best option is always the same.

They began the league by beating Roda 2-1, defeated Benfica 2-0 in continental competition and overcame reigning champions Madrid White 1-0. Then Palma de Mallorca beat them 1-0 despite Barcelona taking 14 shots.

After three league games they sit second on six points, one behind Palma. The rebuild has started quickly. The coronation has not.

The 2.7B transfer machine

Across Soccerverse’s four-season archive, no club has generated more auction spending, sale fees or total transfer turnover than Barcelona.

They have completed 17 purchases for 1,385,775,045 SVC and 21 sales worth 1,320,873,487 SVC. Total movement through the door: 2,706,648,532 SVC.

Yet Barcelona rank only 25th for total buy-and-sale deal sides. This is not endless low-value flipping. It is a concentrated market in elite footballers.

The season-by-season ledger shows how the strategy evolved:

• Season 1 — bought for 67.04M SVC, sold for 132.30M; a 65.26M gross-fee surplus while finishing fourth and winning Europe.
• Season 2 — bought for 176.79M, sold for 304.73M; a 127.94M surplus while winning Spain and the world title.
• Season 3 — bought for 427.83M, sold for 402.27M; only 25.55M of gross net spending after the third-place campaign.
• Season 4 so far — bought for 714.12M, sold for 481.58M; a 232.54M gross-fee gap.

Season 4 spending already exceeds Barcelona’s combined gross outlay across the first three campaigns by 42,465,187 SVC. Even so, current sales have covered roughly two-thirds of that enormous bill.

Across all four seasons, the difference between public purchase and sale fees is just 64.90M SVC. The club balance sheet records an actual transfer cash outflow of 130.95M because Barcelona retain 95% of auction sale fees after deductions.

The biggest transfer machine in the game has not literally funded itself — but it has come remarkably close.

One bid, 21 seconds

Ralek’s public approach is not subtle. On the morning of 4 July he advertised goalkeepers, defenders and midfielders in rapid succession.

That evening, seven clubs had produced nine bids for Moussa Niakhaté, leaving the price at 26M SVC. Barcelona entered once, at 75,555,555 SVC. The auction completed 21 seconds later.

Niakhaté then scored the 80th-minute winner against Roda and was man of the match in the victory over Madrid White. The premium bought an immediate starter, not a vault ornament.

Harry Kane’s 398.56M SVC arrival from Bayern followed the same aggressive logic. But even that headline requires the full ledger: five days later Bayern paid Barcelona 340M for two separate players, including 140M for Jules Koundé. It was not a formal swap, but the bilateral cash difference was 58.56M rather than the full Kane fee.

Ralek is bold, not infallible. Viktor Gyökeres arrived for 150M in January and left for London Red at the same headline price 173 days later. After the game’s sale deduction, that round trip represented a 7.5M cash loss. Barcelona absorbed it and moved on.

The four Season 4 arrivals all appear in the club’s current preferred team sheet. They have been bought to play now, around a squad whose foundations are already young: Barcelona own 25 players, 12 aged 23 or younger, with 14 rated at least 90.

The pulse beneath the price tags

The clearest answer to what makes Barcelona special came against Benfica.

After spending hundreds of millions, Ralek still started three teenagers. Nineteen-year-old Cathal O’Sullivan played the full match and scored in the 53rd minute. Guillermo Fernández Casino, 18, and Andrés Cuenca Cejudo, 19, started alongside him.

Attendance was 99,783 — four short of current capacity.

That is Barcelona in one scene: an almost impossibly full ground, a colossal transfer ledger and a teenager scoring on a continental night.

The club currently holds 158.96M SVC in cash, 714.74M in player value and a strongest eleven averaging 94.8. But money alone does not explain the journey. Their title side generated a transfer surplus. Their statistically superior successor finished third. Their record rebuild has already beaten the champions and lost to Palma.

Ralek17 has learned the hardest truth at Barcelona: better does not always mean first.

What makes this club special is that the response is never to shrink. It is to sell, rebuild, change shape, trust another teenager and fill the great stadium again. The transfer machine supplies the scale. Ralek and the people in those seats supply the heartbeat.
