Seven minutes into the new campaign, the old anxiety arrived early. Before 35,379 spectators, Bryan Mbeumo put Manchester Red ahead.

Bournemouth did not fold. Antoine Semenyo levelled after 19 minutes. Lewis Cook struck the winner in the 75th. By full time, Theramoe’s side had controlled 55% of possession, taken 16 shots to seven and put nine on target.

They finished opening day second in England Division 1. It is only one match. But it made a useful character sketch: fall behind, keep working, win late.

The Vote That Changed Him

Theramoe’s Bournemouth story really begins with a closed door. Game records show an initial appointment on 9 January 2025 and an exit the following day, before he managed a match. He briefly returned, only for more appointment churn.

Then he explained what had happened.

I did want to lead an english div 1 team, but got voted out from not having influence (Bournmouth).

There is no public boyhood-love story here. His stated attraction was England’s top flight. Bournemouth became the place where that ambition hardened into commitment.

His ongoing tenure began on 13 January 2025. Today, the club lists Theramoe as its largest influencer with 20,914 influence. The manager once removed for lacking it now holds more than any other listed account at Bournemouth.

Across 123 matches, his record stands at 43 wins, 44 draws and 36 defeats. Bournemouth finished fifth in Season 1 with 56 points, then 11th with 50 and 13th with 51. This is not a tidy fairy-tale ascent. It is persistence with the rough edges left on.

Safety Before Swagger

Theramoe once published his priorities in numbered order.

But my goal is 1. Get solid finances. 2. Avoid relegation. 3. If 1+2 ok, then 3. get to upper half to increase 1. (earning per match, stadium size, etc.)

That is the man in one message: practical, conditional, almost stubbornly unromantic. Football as an order of operations.

The current numbers rhyme with that plan. Bournemouth hold 94.82 million SVC. In Season 3, completed transfer business brought in 58.37 million SVC against spending of 45.54 million, leaving a 12.83 million SVC surplus.

The archive records 20 completed deals: 11 arrivals and nine departures. The pattern suggests two clocks running together.

Theramoe bought Yuri Silva at 17 for 1.206 million SVC and publicly described the defensive midfielder as a prospect who could learn from Cook and Ryan Christie. Yuri later left for 765,000 SVC—a reminder that development bets remain bets. Mateus Mane arrived for 9.594 million SVC and is now an 18-year-old rated 73.

Harry Howell provides the cleaner trading example: bought for 9.594 million SVC, sold for 13.812 million, a gross fee uplift of 4.218 million.

Yet this is not youth worship. Bournemouth sold Luis Sinisterra for 34.96 million SVC, then added 33-year-old goalkeeper Nahuel Losada for 14.37 million and 33-year-old centre-back Brian Luciatti for 11.98 million. Prospects for tomorrow. Experience through the spine. Cash when the market offers it.

The Shape of Control

The live tactics sheet is just as orderly. Bournemouth currently open in a defensive 4-5-1, retain that structure at the hour and carry later contingencies for passing and attacking football. Cook is the captain and takes corners and free kicks.

Defensive does not have to mean passive. The Manchester Red victory independently showed the broader idea: more possession, more than twice as many shots and a comeback driven by Semenyo and Cook.

Bournemouth are second after one match, not launching a title parade. On 22 July they travel to Fulham, where the table will begin acquiring weight.

Theramoe’s larger test is the final line of his own checklist. He has made Bournemouth difficult to shift. The balance sheet has room. Survival has repeatedly been secured. After finishes of 11th and 13th, can the club return to the upper half?

The table says second. The calendar says game two. Theramoe’s story has never promised shortcuts: solid finances, safety, then the climb.
