On Saturday the goalkeeper Stuttgart are trying to sell made four saves at Wolfsburg and kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 win. He has been on the transfer list since 9 October and nobody has bid.

Stuttgart's asking price is 152,583,407 SVC. His value is 12,715,283.94 SVC, so they want exactly 12 times that. Twelve times value is also the game's limit on bids. The auction shows a maximum allowed bid of 152,583,407.26 SVC, a fraction of a coin above the minimum, so there's no room for a bidding war. Either one club pays the cap or nobody buys him. Until someone bids, the clock doesn't start and the auction has no end time.

Who they're selling

He's a 30-year-old German, rated 90. He peaked at 93 and has never been transferred or loaned out. He played in all 38 league games in each of the first three seasons, keeping 19, 19 and 23 clean sheets. This season he has nine clean sheets in 22 league games, plus seven in ten continental games. He's played 92% of the league minutes available.

Stuttgart are seventh on 35 points. They've conceded 22 goals, joint fifth-fewest in the division and one fewer than leaders Bayern.

Who's behind him

If he goes, Stuttgart's next-best keepers are both rated 74:

• Filip Jørgensen, 24, signed from Chelsea for 15.5M on 10 August. He was on the bench on Saturday.
• Beau Reus, 25, signed from Beveren for 13.99M on 16 October, a week after the listing. He's now on loan at Edinburgh.

Both have Stuttgart's manager, class21, as their agent. After them there's a 69-rated keeper on loan at Dorking and 42-year-old Marcos Pérez, rated 54.

Since the listing went up, Stuttgart have lost five of eight games, including a cup exit to St. Pauli. Freiburg visit on Wednesday, and Napoli come in the continental knockouts on 23 November.

The market

Of the 9,245 players on the market, only Paris's Lucas Lopes Beraldo has a higher asking price, at 160M. Twelve players rated 86 or above are listed. He's the only goalkeeper among them, and only one of the twelve has a bid.

A club has paid the cap for a keeper before. In July, Madrid White paid 239,261,850 SVC for Bart Verbruggen, exactly 12 times his 19.9M value. But Verbruggen was 24 and the season was just starting. In September, Bristol Red paid Stuttgart 130.8M for a player, also at exactly 12 times his value.

Not a one-off

Stuttgart have six players on the list, asking 538.5M in total for players valued at 59.3M combined. That's about nine times their value. Four are priced at exactly 12 times:

• The keeper: 152.6M
• An 84-rated right-back: 96.2M
• Ian Maatsen: 55.7M (listed 26 October)
• Noham Kamara, 19: 35.8M (listed 26 October)

The other two, a 92-rated left-back and an 89-rated midfielder, have had their prices cut but still have no bids. The midfielder was also injured at Wolfsburg and is out until 16 November.

Stuttgart don't need the money. Their balance is 291.7M SVC, the highest in the German top flight and twice as much as the next club, Freiburg (145.7M).

Only one user has bought into the keeper. BonaniStarDust bought 20 of his influence on 26 October at 1.16 SVC each.

My read: setting the price at the game's ceiling means Stuttgart will only sell for the maximum possible fee. After 23 days, nobody has met it.
