19th. 20th. 18th. Tottenham, Sevilla Green and Lazio enter Gameweek 9 in those positions. Eight matches is too early for obituaries. It is not too early for diagnosis.

Each 20-team league has 30 of its 38 rounds remaining. Last season’s membership turnover also gives us a practical relegation line: 18th to 20th went down in England, Spain and Italy.

For the fixture read, I compared each bottom-six club’s next five league opponents through 9 September by their current average points. Lower means kinder. It is a schedule index, not a survival probability.

England: goal difference is already a lifeline

• The bubble: Brighton 8 points, Newcastle 8, Brentford 7, Leicester 7, Tottenham 6, Coventry 5.

Brentford occupy 17th because their minus-one goal difference is 12 goals better than Leicester’s minus-13. Hours before Brentford beat Leicester 3-0 for their first league win, GreenFuryx offered some impeccable gallows humour.

Instead, Brentford jumped from 20th to safety. Leicester dropped into the bottom three with the division’s worst defensive record: 18 conceded in eight. Their problems are compounded by 92-rated centre-forward Vangelis Pavlidis being injured until 15 October.

Tottenham have scored only four, but their last three league results read draw-win-draw. Nickx has used six formations across ten recent matches in all competitions, which suggests searching rather than a settled identity. Still, this is no freefall.

Their position remains extraordinary. Tottenham finished second in Season 1, sixth in Season 2, won the Season 3 national cup and hold the division’s largest balance at 156.67M SVC. Proper heavyweight numbers. The table remains unimpressed.

Spain: six clubs, one point

• The bubble: Valencia 7 points, Almería 7, Leganés 6, Santander 6, Girona 6, Sevilla Green 6.

Leganés are 17th on minus-three. Santander and Girona are both minus-four, while bottom club Sevilla Green sit on minus-six. One swing changes everything.

Sevilla Green are the sharpest underperformers: the league’s fifth-highest average rating at 82, its third-largest balance at 103.19M SVC, yet only three goals. Six formations in nine recent matches have produced no attacking identity, and the latest change ended in a 3-1 home defeat to direct rivals Leganés.

That puts 2XL under sporting pressure despite a short tenure. Sevilla Green finished seventh and ninth in the previous two seasons; this squad should not be bottom.

Valencia, fourth in Season 2, have steadied with three consecutive draws. Almería’s problem is the opposite: 15 conceded, the worst record in Spain’s bottom six. Their favourable fixtures now leave TugaSport with opportunity and scrutiny in equal measure.

Italy: the champions in 18th

• The bubble: Bergamo 8 points, Catanzaro 8, Sassuolo 7, Lazio 7, Monza 7, Genova Blue 6.

Sassuolo survive the current cut on minus-three, one goal better than Lazio. Monza sit another four goals back.

Lazio are the definition of too big for this conversation inside Soccerverse: Season 1 champions, reigning national-cup holders and fifth last season. Their best available XI averages 87.6, yet they are 18th.

There is a response forming. Felpa10’s side switched to a 4-3-3 for the last two league matches and beat H Verona 3-0 on Wednesday, climbing from 20th. Felpa10 only arrived on 7 August, so the pressure belongs more to the situation than the new manager.

Catanzaro’s minus-six differential also needs context. Six of their nine conceded came in one defeat; they allowed only three across the other seven matches. That is a genuine survival base if an attack with three goals can wake up.

Who has the kinder next five?

• England — Brighton: opponents average 9.4 points. Liverpool and Crystal Palace come first, but Newcastle, Tottenham and Coventry follow. Leicester have the hardest sequence at 12.2, ending with away games against Aston Villa and London Red.
• Spain — Almería: opponents average 8.0 points, with Sevilla Green, Santander and Leganés among the first four. Sevilla Green face the hardest route at 11.8 and finish the stretch against fourth-placed Roda and leaders Barcelona.
• Italy — Genova Blue: opponents average 10.4 points and the newly promoted side open against Sassuolo and Catanzaro. Lazio’s 13.2 is comfortably hardest: four of their first four opponents currently sit in the top eight, including Roma and Como.

The pressure verdict

• Highest heat: Tedlasso and 2XL. Leicester cannot absorb 18 goals against, while Sevilla Green’s resources make three goals scored indefensible.
• Opportunity pressure: TugaSport. Almería have the softest fixture ladder and three early six-pointers. Failure to use it would be costly.
• Position pressure, improving evidence: Nickx. Tottenham are 19th, but three unbeaten league matches argue against panic.
• Inherited pressure: Felpa10. Lazio’s history raises expectations, but a fresh manager and a 3-0 win deserve context.

This is a football judgement, not a claim that any manager faces a live shareholder vote. The numbers don’t lie, but they do require reading properly.

By 9 September, 25 league matches will still remain. The next five will not decide relegation. They will decide who spends the autumn escaping it.
