WEST HAM PAY 42.9M FOR THEIR BIGGEST BACKER'S PLAYER

WEST HAM PAY 42.9M FOR THEIR BIGGEST BACKER'S PLAYER

Look at who holds the influence, not just the fee.

West Ham did the biggest deal of the week on Thursday morning. They paid Alkmaar 42,943,499 SVC for a 79-rated, 22-year-old Dutch attacker whose name the game data still doesn't show. His agent is Libertaerx, who holds 585,308 of his 585,309 issued influence. Libertaerx is also West Ham's largest influence holder, with 15,684.

This is not the only one. I checked the five biggest fees since Monday, and two more follow the same pattern:

  • Hull paid Thun 25.36M for 79-rated left-back Dominik Franke. His agent, Alexander28, holds all 101,000 issued Franke influence and is also Hull's top influence holder (21,254).
  • Moskva Red paid Leiria 17.27M for a 19-year-old Spanish defensive midfielder whose name isn't in the data either. His agent, Luucasmb, holds all 100,000 issued influence and is Moskva Red's second-largest holder (3,204). The player is injured until 5 November.

The three deals add up to 85.57M SVC, and each fee is twelve times the player's game value. The money goes to the selling clubs, and nothing in the data shows a rule was broken. Still, when the same name sits on both sides of a deal, it deserves a second look.

West Ham also had a rival. Alkmaar listed the player on Tuesday at a minimum of 42,943,499. Berlin bid exactly that on Wednesday morning, West Ham bid the same that afternoon, and West Ham got him. The Hammers are 16th in ENG Division 1, without a win in six (LLDDDL), and now have 27.39M left in the bank.

Thun cash in

Thun did best out of the week. Franke's fee plus Fabio Fehr's 8.74M move to München bring them 34.1M in two days, and the Swiss club, seventh in their top flight, now have 84.38M. München covered the Fehr fee by selling Thibaud-Dorian Garondo to Modena for 9.28M. Pisa spent 20M on Kumasi's Matheus Lima Beltrão and now have 6.30M, and Motherwell paid Torres Vedras 13.87M for 32-year-old Stephen Kingsley.

Treatment room

  • Dinamo: 84-rated Josip Mišić has a 68-day injury and is due back on 14 December. Dinamo are third in HRV Division 1, four points behind Lokomotiva and 16 behind unbeaten Split, and have only 331K SVC to spend on cover.
  • Vicenza: Giuseppe Cuomo has a major injury and is out for 101 days, until 16 January.
  • Arnhem: two blows. Mathijs Tielemans (77) is out until 18 November and Gyan de Regt (72) for 70 days.
  • Moskva Blue: 81-rated João de Souza is out until 15 November.
  • Szczecin: Leonárdo Koútris is out for 86 days, until 30 December.

Red ink in Jerez

Jerez de la Frontera D are now the poorest club on the ticker, at -4.76M SVC. The balance sheet shows how they got there. On 13 July, after a 2.75M cash injection, they had 4.11M in the bank. Since 1 August they've paid 16 wage bills of 454,470 each and have been below zero since 5 August. This season TV, gate, sponsor and merchandise income has brought in 2.29M against 8.56M in wages, so they are paying out 3.7 times what they earn.

On the pitch they're doing well: third in ESP Division 3 after three promotions from the sixth tier. Manager MisterCortes7 is also the club's largest influence holder (44,572).

Thirteen minutes at Cosenza

ArrigoSacchi left Reggio nell'Emilia for Cosenza (ITA Division 2) at 12:02 UTC on Wednesday. He resigned 13 minutes and 37 seconds later and was back in charge at Reggio nell'Emilia by 12:17. LACS, Cosenza's biggest influence holder, had taken over at Cosenza at 12:16. ArrigoSacchi won his first game back, and that was his fourth job at three clubs since 26 September. Zarkasi has quit Fylde and LotharMatthaus has taken over at Frankfurt Blau.

Contract renewals

Udine gave two-season extensions to Joshua Zirkzee, Jurgen Ekkelenkamp, James Adusei Abankwah and Maduka Okoye, all within seven minutes on Tuesday. Como gave Edoardo Goldaniga four more seasons and Sevilla Red kept Saúl Ñíguez for two. Alkmaar renewed Sem Westerveld for four seasons 18 seconds after listing the player West Ham went on to buy.

Suspensions

İlkay Gündoğan (Coventry), Gustaf Lagerbielke (Tottenham) and Terry Devlin (Portsmouth) were all sent off on Wednesday and each misses three games. Napoli lose Stanislav Lobotka for one game after two yellow cards.
