Bournemouth get the lone vote of confidence as Donostia, Napoli and Bayern are backed to turn tight chases into crowns.

TITLE-RACE BOMBSHELL: THREE LEADERS TIPPED TO FALL

Gameweek 13 arrives with four leaders and almost no breathing room. Each contender has 26 league fixtures left, so this is a forecast rather than a coronation. Yet the clues are already sharp: recent points, goal balance, direct meetings and where the return legs sit.

  • England — Bournemouth 23 points, Liverpool 22, Burton-upon-Trent 21; London Red and Manchester Blue lurk on 20.
  • Spain — Barcelona 26, Donostia-San Sebastián 25, Roda 22.
  • Italy — Roma 25, Napoli 24, Torino White 20.
  • Germany — Hoffenheim 28, Frankfurt and Bayern 26, Dortmund 25.

England: Bournemouth’s response is real

England refuses a tidy two-team framing: five clubs are separated by three points. Momentum, however, belongs emphatically to Bournemouth.

Their last six produced 13 points, against eight each for Liverpool and Burton. More tellingly, Bournemouth have taken 13 from 15 since a 6-1 defeat at London Red and kept four consecutive clean sheets. They moved from counter-attacking shapes into a normal 4-1-3-2 for the latest two wins. That looks like correction, not blind fortune.

Liverpool retain the stronger season balance — 17 scored and 12 conceded against Bournemouth’s 19 and 16 — plus an 86 average player rating to the leaders’ 84. But their last six contain only two victories, while two current injuries extend beyond Wednesday’s kick-off. Bournemouth’s squad scan lists all 26 players available.

Liverpool did beat Burton 2-1 away, the only completed meeting within the present top three. Bournemouth still have all four matches against Liverpool and Burton ahead, beginning at Liverpool in Gameweek 13. A win there would open a four-point gap on Liverpool; defeat would surrender the lead.

Liverpool’s following five opponents sit sixth, 12th, 13th, 17th and 19th, so the schedule offers recovery. Burton must still negotiate Manchester Blue before hosting Bournemouth on 3 October.

Prediction: Bournemouth. Liverpool have the cleaner long-term numbers, but four straight wins, four clean sheets and full availability earn the leaders the narrowest vote.

Spain: Donostia spring the shape-shift

Donostia have collected 15 points from the last 18, ahead of Barcelona’s 13 and Roda’s 11. Barcelona and Donostia have both scored 19; the champions-elect debate currently turns on margins of six and seven conceded respectively.

The head-to-head triangle is perfectly circular. Barcelona beat Roda 2-1, Roda beat Donostia 1-0, then Donostia beat Barcelona 3-2. Every match was a one-goal home victory.

There was tactical intelligence in the latest swing. Donostia lost at Roda using an attacking 4-2-3-1, then changed to a passing 4-5-1 against Barcelona and won. They did not merely try the same plan harder.

Barcelona still possess the enormous squad-rating advantage: 91 against Roda’s 85 and Donostia’s 80. Their Gameweek 13 assignment is also the kindest, at home to 15th, while Donostia host sixth and Roda host fourth. The immediate availability picture cuts the other way: Barcelona’s squad scan lists three injuries running beyond kick-off, compared with one for Donostia.

The remaining direct games are Roda-Barcelona on 10 October, Donostia-Roda on 25 November and Barcelona-Donostia on 28 November. That final venue keeps Barcelona dangerous.

Prediction: Donostia-San Sebastián. This is the bold call. Barcelona have the deeper resources, but Donostia’s form, tactical adaptation and fresh head-to-head victory are too persuasive to ignore.

Italy: Napoli’s surge versus Roma’s wall

This is the clearest clash of styles. Roma have conceded a division-best three goals in 12 matches. Napoli have scored 19 and taken all 18 available points across their last six. Roma managed nine over the same period; Torino White took 11.

Roma’s stability is absolute: a passing 4-2-3-1 in all nine matches of the tactical sample. It has protected them superbly, although three consecutive draws preceded their latest victory. Napoli have used four different formations across ten sampled games and finished their latest league assignment with a 5-0 away win.

None of the top three have faced one another. All six direct meetings remain, with the first sequence compressed into Napoli-Torino on 26 September, Torino-Roma on 3 October and Napoli-Roma on 7 October. The return games fall on 16, 19 and 23 December, ending with Roma-Napoli.

Gameweek 13 should preserve the tension: all three are at home to opponents currently 13th or lower.

Prediction: Napoli. Roma’s defensive floor is safer, but Napoli’s six-win acceleration and greater ability to change shape give them the higher ceiling.

Germany: Bayern own the hidden advantage

Hoffenheim and Bayern are the momentum pair, each taking 15 points from the last 18. Frankfurt and Dortmund collected ten apiece. Hoffenheim lead with the best all-round balance — 24 scored, ten conceded — while Bayern’s 25 goals come with a much looser 16 allowed. Dortmund have conceded only four but scored just 12.

The decisive evidence is head-to-head. Bayern have already visited every other member of the top four, winning 1-0 at Dortmund, drawing 1-1 at Hoffenheim and winning 3-2 at Frankfurt. Seven away points, with all three return matches at Bayern’s ground, is a formidable hand.

Bayern also used five different formations during their five-match winning run. Hoffenheim’s strength is the opposite: the same normal 4-5-1 throughout their ten-match tactical sample.

Gameweek 13 sends Hoffenheim to Frankfurt while Bayern host 19th and Dortmund host fifth. The leaders could underline their authority, but Bayern have the clearest opportunity to close or erase the two-point gap.

Prediction: Bayern. Their defensive exposure makes this uncomfortable, yet the away head-to-head haul, attacking output and home return fixtures provide the strongest title case in any of these four leagues.

Bayern are my firmest selection; Donostia are the flyer. First, Wednesday brings Liverpool-Bournemouth and Frankfurt-Hoffenheim — two matches capable of moving the races before the ink dries.
