One month later, West Ham are unbeaten and second in England Division 1. Two wins and a draw have brought seven points, five goals and only two conceded. The manager who lived through the escape has stayed to shape the response.

The habit of choosing hard roads

West Ham cycled through five named managers before SupernovaOrbit during 2025. Their current 64-game tenure, which began on October 7, is already the longest spell in the club’s recorded managerial history.

There is no public manifesto explaining why they chose West Ham. The strongest answer is written across the jobs they celebrate.

In a Discord review of Season 3, cosmicfrozenorbit highlighted projects involving a supposedly weakest squad, a club with a weak economy, late promotion pushes and another relegation escape. West Ham’s entry was the least glamorous and perhaps the most revealing.

17th and survived the drop

That makes the attraction an inference, not a quotation: the difficulty appears to be the point. West Ham offered a larger stage, but no soft landing.

The shape changes. The intent does not

West Ham opened Season 4 in a 4-2-3-1 with an Attacking approach and beat Leeds 2-0. They kept both the shape and mentality for a 2-2 draw away to Manchester Red, whose squad carries a higher average rating.

Against Fulham, SupernovaOrbit changed to a 3-2-2-2-1. The mentality remained Attacking. West Ham won 1-0.

That is the clearest tactical signature from the opening three matches: formation is negotiable; initiative is not.

There is steel beneath the adventure. West Ham’s highest average team attribute is tackling at 85, ahead of shooting at 82 and passing at 80. Konstantinos Mavropanos, Emerson Palmieri, Maximilian Kilman and Aaron Wan-Bissaka give the manager an experienced defensive platform from which Jarrod Bowen and the advanced midfielders can attack.
